The star is a special symbol to our farm and has been for generations, even long before our family farmed Adjala Acres.
When we took hands of Adjala Acres over 20 years ago, we inherited and embraced the Star as an emblem of our Farm.
After a devastating fire in 2010 that took down the original bank barn, we rebuilt, knowing that we must include the star; honouring the barn and legacy that was lost in the fire.
The star continues to hang in the peaks of our barn, and can be seen at the entrance to our store.
We are inspired by this symbol not only because of our personal farm connection, but also because of its strong association with Christmas Stars are one of the most prominent Christmas symbols. The star sits atop our trees, it represents guidance, hope and good luck.
Our store was originally created as a Christmas/holiday themed “pop-up” shop as the holiday season is, and always has been, a very important time of year in our family. Christmas time comes after harvest has finished, and is a time to rest after a long, busy stretch of work. It is when our whole family is able to take time to come together and celebrate.
We decided to describe our store as a “market” as our goal is to bring together crafts and local goods of different kinds to create a unique shopping experience; one where individual people’s and small businesses’ items are revered and showcased. With this, our customers can have the experience of visiting a small-scale crafting market inside our quaint store!
Therefore, when deciding on a name – the two words made perfect sense, and thus, STAR MARKET WAS BORN!
